The Art Of Letting Go With Lauren Williams

“My form of art demands surrender. As the artist I begin with a plan, but the more freedom I give each piece to come alive, the more captivating the result.” - Lauren Williams

Some artists will admit they like to color inside the lines of their work, keeping their masterpieces tidy and predictable. And then there are artists like Lauren Williams who ditch the canvas and it’s stifled boundaries altogether, allowing the intrigue to flow where it may. It was outside the canvas lines where Williams redirected her vision of recreating wall art by using walnut plank fibers in an array of colors. Her vibrant and textured tapestries allow the wall space fluidity and controlled chaos while maintaining an originality that feels both eclectic and traditional.

Some refer to Williams' work as the modern day quilt. However her art is a far cry from dear grandma’s blanket. As she strings together hundreds of individual fiber strands drenched in rich dyes, landscapes are formed - or perhaps the soft shadows just after the sun has set, now gracing its existence on a wall. She begins each project with a vision, but let’s go of the control during the process, never knowing exactly which direction the tapestry is going to take which results in dramatic yet organic developments. It comes as no surprise that Lauren is inspired most by nature. The colors she chooses range from fiery oranges and reds, taken from desert sun sets to indigos and cobalt blues from calming seascape mornings.
