FEBRUARY DROP / A LUST FOR LIFE
Ah, February—a month infused with love-drenched everything… from over-priced pre-fixed menus to classically sappy romcoms on constant loop, it’s safe to say we’re all overdosing on oxytocin. But I say bring it on! In this worldly climate, too much love is a good problem to have. As we explore all the touchpoints of our theme A Lust for Life, I find myself utterly enamored by the very essence of love in all its forms.
Love is the heartbeat of our existence. It's the warmth that fills our souls, the light that guides our paths and deserves to be expressed as much as possible. It's the bond that connects us, the fuel that ignites our passions, and the magic that transforms ordinary moments into extraordinary memories.
And what better way to celebrate than by indulging in the joys of life itself? From the tantalizing flavors of a one-pot tomato orzo dish crafted by culinary cutie and my dear friend Anna Barnett to the awe-inspiring creations of artist Andrian Cruz, whose high-octane furniture and lighting infuse spaces with an electrifying energy—there's an undeniable zest for life woven into every aspect of this month's content.
But love isn't just about grand gestures and extravagant displays—it's also found in the quiet moments, the shared glances, and the gentle touches that speak volumes without uttering a word. That's why I'm particularly excited to share insights from therapist Claudia Behnke, whose wisdom reminds us that love is as much about the journey as it is about the destination.
Claudia's words resonate deeply with me: "There's a certain kind of joy you get when you see a relationship blossom because of the work you've done together." It's a beautiful reminder that love, like a delicate flower, requires nurturing, patience, and a willingness to grow—together.
So, my fellow love-drunk, let us dive into this month's drop with open hearts and a fervent desire to embrace the boundless love that surrounds us. Whether it's savoring a delicious meal with loved ones, immersing ourselves in the beauty of art and design, or nurturing the connections that enrich our lives, let's revel in the sheer wonder of existence and cultivate our very own lust for life.
With love and excitement,
DEVOUR/ WITH ANNA BARNETT
RECIPE No. 2
ONE-POT TOMATO ORZO
INGREDIENTS
1 tin cherry tomatoes (save tin to refill with water x2)
7/10 sun-dried tomatoes
3 shallots - peeled & halved
rind of Grana Padano-cleaned, left whole to poach in sauce, cut into bitesize pieces to serve
3 strips of lemon rind (save lemon and add juice before serving)
several sprigs of fresh thyme
50g butter
800-900ml water
generous sprinkle of sea salt flakes
several turns of freshly ground black pepper
pinch or two of chilli flakes
300g orzo
35g finely grated Grana Padano
juice of half a lemon
several generous glugs of extra virgin olive oil
GARNISH
Grana Padano to serve, shavings work well
DIRECTIONS
Take a medium to large heavy based pan or casserole dish and add in the tinned cherry tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, halved shallots, Grana Padano rind, lemon rind, fresh thyme butter and water. Cover and gently bring to the boil, cooking for around 10 minutes.
Remove the lid, add seasoning and chilli to suit your taste followed by the orzo.Stir and cover, allowing the pasta to cook for between 7-9 minutes (depending on how much bite you like to your pasta. I usually opt for around 7-8 minutes as it continues to cook in the residual heat once removed from the stove). Ensure you stir every 3 or so minutes to avoid the pasta from stickingto the pan.
Before serving add in the finely grated zest of half a lemon plus its juice (use your hand to catch any pips) add in your finely grated Grana Padano stirring until it melts. Finish with a good glug of extra virgin olive oil. Once plated add a couple of extra shavings of Grana Padano

INTERIOR MOTIVES / A LOVE FOR RESIN RUNS DEEP FOR
ARTIST AND MAKER ADRIÁN CRUZ
In 1946, the visionary artist Chema laid the groundwork for a creative lineage that would echo through the ages. In the heart of Mexico City, his pioneering work with resin birthed a legacy that transcended mere craftsmanship, elevating everyday objects into ethereal works of art. Among those captivated by his boundless creativity was his grandson, Adrian Cruz.
As a child, Adrian found himself spellbound by the translucent allure of his grandfather's resin creations, each piece a testament to Chema's ingenuity and artistic vision. Though separated by generations, the connection between grandfather and grandson was palpable, with Chema's passion for art leaving an indelible mark on Adrian's soul.
“Through the objects in resin that my grandfather created, he transmitted me his passion.”
After pursuing studies in architecture in Italy, Adrian felt a familiar tug at his heartstrings—a longing to breathe new life into the objects that had sparked his imagination as a child. Drawing upon the techniques and inspiration passed down through generations, Adrian embarked on a journey to honor his grandfather's legacy while carving out a creative path of his own.
Today, Adrian Cruz stands as a testament to the enduring power of artistic expression. Through his new collection, Adrian seamlessly melds the vibrant hues of Mexican culture with the timeless elegance of onyx and marble—a reflection of his architectural journey and the rich tapestry of his heritage. But for Adrian, this collection is more than just a tribute to his grandfather's memory. It's a journey of self-discovery, a chance to unearth new facets of Chema's spirit with each meticulously crafted piece. With each creation, Adrian invites us to embark on a journey of exploration—a journey that transcends time and space, weaving together the threads of past and present in a tapestry of beauty and wonder.
Through the artistry of Chema and the vision of his talented grandson Adrian Cruz, we are reminded of the profound impact that creativity can have across generations. In Adrian's hands, the legacy of Chema lives on, continuing to inspire and enchant all who encounter his breathtaking work.
BROAD STROKES / ART WITH A HEART
I'm thrilled to introduce you to multidisciplinary artist Hrair—a true translator of color and abstraction, who has mastered the art of peeling back the layers of human emotion. Currently residing in New York City, Hrair's journey through the world of art has been nothing short of extraordinary. With roots in London and experiences spanning Tokyo, Spain, and Paris, his global perspective infuses every stroke of his brush with a sense of depth and richness.
What drew me to Hrair's work from the very start is his uncanny ability to capture the essence of the human soul amidst the chaos of everyday life. His bold and vibrant palette of colors serves as a window into the hidden emotions lurking behind society's masks—a poignant reflection on the corporate rat race, the weight of expectation, and the universal longing for authenticity. With pieces showcased in collections around the world and collaborations with prestigious galleries like the Maddox Gallery, Hrair's impact on the art world ripples from one continent to the next. From the bustling streets of New York to the tranquil shores of the Bahamas, his work transcends borders and speaks to the universal human experience. Let’s find out what makes this talent tick…
Where is your studio located?
Downtown Manhattan, New York
Any favorite materials and mediums to work with?
Acrylic on canvas.
Your art is so identifiable—how did you find your artistic voice?
Initially, it was through sketching and painting at a young age. When growing up in London, I was surrounded by visual art whether it was Tintin and Asterix books or the album cover art in my parents’ record collection and by my teens skateboard and hip-hop culture became massive influences.
DJing and producing sample-based music back in the ‘90s and ‘00s greatly informed the eventual texturing and layering of paint in my artwork, the balance and space, what’s left out being as important as what’s mixed in, those techniques have always been present as my work has evolved.
Then of course new and everyday life experiences continue to shape the outcome of my work. A big example was my becoming a new dad recently, which has certainly led to more loving, warmer themes being introduced and expressed in my pieces now than previously.
Is there a central theme within your work? An observation of our society, scratching the socially constructed surface of ourselves to reveal a glimpse of the true emotions hidden beneath those everyday masks.
Tell me about your creative process when you’re conceiving new work. What’s the vibe like when you’re creating? I approach each piece completely unpremeditated, applying layers of paint to the canvas randomly via a palette knife, all the while interrogating the evolving image until something catches my eye, and then will build on the piece from there. Music is a constant while I paint, which can influence the flow depending on genre, anything from ambient or dub reggae to ‘80s pop or improvisational jazz.
Our February content drop explores all things passion delving into the tactile experiences that conjure up a lust for life—does this idea speak to the works you create? Yes, much of my work concentrates on a search for positivity in the face of adversity, questioning society’s focal points and outcome for true happiness, fulfillment, and love when we may have been unaware those things were right in front of us the whole time.
How do you describe your artwork? Figurative, abstract, and fauvist in style, my work is defined by the use of a bold and vibrant palette of color, sometimes in contrast with the subject matter, the intention is always to capture a feeling or mood within the piece.
Talk to me about color—how do you approach one palette over another? I favor a bright palette and use darker colors mainly as an anchor to allow lighter ones further exposure. Exploring this contrast has always been important to me, the theory and relationship between colors and combinations which has translated to my work in various ways including the mostly block-color backgrounds of my pieces in order to showcase the main subject matter in greater depth.
“I approach each piece completely unpremeditated.”
WELL-BALANCED / FINDING SIMPLE PASSIONS WITH THERAPIST CLAUDIA BEHNKE
As we delve into the depths of passion, love, and respect, London-based therapist Claudia Behnke illuminates the path to passion with wisdom and clarity. Guided by her gentle hand and profound understanding of the human spirit, Claudia specializes in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy and has developed a transcendent approach to conventional therapy, offering clients a holistic journey towards healing and self-discovery. Rooted in her German heritage, Claudia's practice is infused with a deep appreciation for the intricacies of human experience, and here she shares new perspectives and invaluable tools for nurturing the fires of passion, love, and respect.
HOLISTICALLY SPEAKING
I specialise in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy, which offers a more holistic approach to healing. It's not just about addressing the neurotic or existential issues that clients come with but also about facilitating their spiritual growth and navigating spiritual crises when they arise.
The turning point for me was realising that traditional psychotherapy didn't fully embrace the spiritual dimension, which I see as vital to overall healing. Psychosynthesis allows me to support clients through their immediate struggles and realise their fullest potential.
Aside from my work with individuals, I'm also passionate about couples counselling. It's a different ballgame, really. I'm all for providing tools that foster empathy and help partners truly connect with each other. There's a certain kind of joy you get when you see a relationship blossom because of the work you've done together.
SIMPLE MOMENTS = PURE PASSION
Passion for me is about developing a deep and sensual relationship with life and engaging with life's pleasures fully and consciously, appreciating beauty and form. I love the arts, allowing myself to be moved by a play (my latest obsession is Sarah Snook performing in The Picture of Dorian Gray) or attending exhibitions. I love moments spent with my pup Luna and my cat Kiki. Their presence is a daily reminder of life's simple joys.
IN THE PURSUIT OF PASSION
Passion is a driving force that influences our lives profoundly. It's the spark that fuels our ambitions, providing us with energy and dedication to pursue our dreams. Being passionate means investing ourselves fully in our endeavours, which can contribute to a sense of fulfillment and achievement.
Pursuing passions can be a source of joy and contentment in the realm of well-being. Engaging with our interests wholeheartedly can boost happiness and life satisfaction.
In relationships, passion is the glue that binds partners together, fostering intimacy. Yet, it's something we have to work on; it requires continuous effort, open communication, and a shared commitment to keep excitement alive. My mantra? Passion thrives when there is a willingness to keep the spark ignited.
TOUGH LOVE
I recently attended a workshop with the brilliant Trauma therapist Janina Fisher who made me laugh when she said: “Relationships are not for sissies!” They demand effort and dedication, especially when the initial glow fades into the background. Keeping a relationship alive and enriching means constant investment from both parties.
It's also important to recognise when you're facing a rough patch and know that seeking help is okay. There's no shame in reaching out for support to navigate through life's challenges together. After all, the strongest relationships are often those that have weathered storms with a little bit of external guidance if necessary.
(NON)NEUTRAL GROUND
In my couples therapy, I adopt Terry Real's relational life therapy, which involves a unique aspect: we don’t always stay neutral. Instead, we identify the 'one-down' and 'one-up' positions in the relationship. I support the quieter partner in voicing their needs and call attention to the more dominant partner’s behaviours.
By moving away from neutrality, I can directly address and challenge unhelpful dynamics. This isn’t about assigning blame; it’s about cultivating accountability and encouraging both individuals to grow. The aim is to help couples build relationships grounded in respect and open communication where both partners can flourish.
TO HAVE AND TO HOLD
In any relationship, open communication is essential. It's about sharing thoughts and feelings honestly while listening with an open heart, fostering understanding and empathy. Respect is equally vital—valuing each other's opinions, emotions, and choices, even when they differ from our own.
Trust, built gradually, forms the bedrock of a secure partnership based on reliability and faith in one another. Then there's quality time. It’s not just about how much time you spend together, but the depth and quality of that time that truly deepens the connection.
And let’s not forget the wisdom of my mentor, Terry Real, who teaches that relationships ebb and flow between conflict and resolution. It’s normal to have disagreements, but the health of a relationship is measured by how effectively we navigate through these moments and find our way back to each other.

FROM FASHION TO THERAPY
The pivot from one to the other might come as a surprise, but it felt like a natural evolution for me. My fascination with mental health was a constant companion, often the subject of many a late-night conversation over wine when my friends were out clubbing.
When I first moved to London, the timing didn't feel right to start a career in therapy—I was young and eager to experience life in the big smoke. I landed in the fashion world - vibrant and creative. It was a fantastic space, introducing me to a spectrum of people and their stories. But it also showed me the real challenges—burnout, body image, self-esteem—that people in the industry face daily.
These experiences circled back to my interest in mental health. When a friend mentioned a psychotherapy course, it piqued my interest. I went to an open day, and everything clicked into place. That was the turning point for me, and there’s been no looking back since.
A TALE OF TWO STORIES
In individual therapy, I'm like a detective with only one witness's account—it's one side of a story, and while it's invaluable, it's just one piece of the puzzle. Even though I'll challenge ideas and explore your history to shed light on patterns, it's often like trying to see the whole picture through a keyhole. My role is to support you, provide a space filled with empathy and positive regard, and always prioritise your well-being.
But in couples counseling, it's like the picture widens. I'm not just hearing about the relationship; I'm witnessing it in action. It's the difference between a sketch and a portrait. I see how you interact and react, which gives me a much clearer understanding of the dynamics at play. Here, the relationship takes centre stage. I'll ask each couple what they aim for, which becomes our collective mission. It's about harnessing that insight to create a deeper connection between partners.
CONNECTING THE DOTS
To me, a lust for life is that insatiable curiosity and wonder. It's about adopting what Zen Buddhists call beginner's mind and viewing the world with fresh, eager eyes. It involves constantly pursuing new experiences, a dedication to lifelong learning, and a commitment to marvelling at life's mysteries.
It's also enthusiasm to live fully and richly, engaging with our passions, creative pursuits, and the simple yet profound moments that make up our days.
At its core, a lust for life for me is about connection—the bonds we form with people, the depth of our interactions, and the collective joys and sorrows that unite us. It's about loving deeply, living passionately, and embracing every facet of the human experience.

INTERIOR MOTIVES / CAN’T HELP IT… WE LOVE A HEARTBREAKER
At the heart of Coquette lies the scalloped motif—a nod to the iconic shell motif of Rococo architecture. Offered in three distinct formats—Fringe, Frame, and Field—the collection invites you to explore endless possibilities of customization. Whether adorning your kitchen, bathroom, living room, or office, Coquette allows you to curate your own narrative, weaving together elements of tradition and innovation in a seamless dance of creativity.
But Coquette is more than just a collection of tiles—it's a testament to the visionary ethos of Thatcher. Founded by Avery Thatcher, a visionary designer with a penchant for pushing the boundaries of conventional design, Thatcher is a Portland-based studio renowned for its outré wallcoverings, tiles, and home goods. Committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility, Thatcher's designs celebrate the beauty of imperfection, offering a curated selection of products that leave a minimal footprint on the natural world.
Meet Coquette
Thatcher’s new cement tiles inspired by the work of great set designers of the Italian Rococo.
In the ever-evolving landscape of design, where tradition meets innovation and romance intertwines with modernity, Thatcher unveils its latest masterpiece: Coquette, a tile collection that transcends the boundaries of conventional aesthetics.
Step into a world where every space becomes a canvas for expression, where the timeless allure of the Rococo period meets the boldness of contemporary design. Inspired by the intricate motifs of Italian Rococo set designers, Coquette pays homage to the ephemeral beauty of theatrical stages, where art and architecture converge in a symphony of form and color.
“Coquette is based on the work of great set designers of the Italian Rococo, known for their ephemeral works of architecture,” says the company’s founder and designer, Avery Thatcher. “The scalloped motif emulates the illusion of the theatrical experience: where art sets the stage for beauty in the built environment.”
As Avery puts it, "Coquette is more than just a collection of tiles—it's a visual experience, a theatrical journey where shape and color intertwine to create immersive environments." Indeed, Coquette is a celebration of the unexpected, a bold exploration of the intersection between highbrow and lowbrow, tradition and innovation.
So, whether you're seeking to infuse your space with a touch of romance or embark on a journey of creative expression, Coquette invites you to step into a world where design knows no bounds—a world where every space becomes a stage, and every tile tells a story.
