Modern Architecture Goes Off-Grid In The Depths Of South African Farmland

Located on 80-acres of farmland just outside of Pretoria, South Africa is the extraordinary home of some very lucky parents—they belong to architect Nadine Engelbrecht.

The rural residence is unrecognizable from its former self. Sprawling views of the surrounding landscape permeate through the unconventional floor plan housed in a barn-inspired structure. Nadine thought outside of the box—quite literally—when taking on this deeply personal project. So, without further ado, let the architecture tour commence!

Known as The Conservatory, the 6,458-square-foot house shows off a massive glass façade, whose barn-like structure allows the home to both blend into the topography while also making a bold design statement.

We know… we’re also wondering how to get on the invite-list for dinner parties. We’ll keep you posted!
