Take A Hyper Realistic Drawing by CJ Hendry, It’ll Last Longer

CJ HENDRY…

is not a photographer which is a hard concept to grasp once you view her incredible pieces. “The boxing gloves? Even the silky flower?” You ask. Yup. All hand drawn. Australian born Hendry is a self proclaimed introvert which means she has a penchant for alone time like most artists. It is in her seclusion, spending tedious hours capturing an object's photocopy essence and transferring it to paper with each careful stroke of her colored pencil. It is in these isolated hours, she has directed the world's attention back to her and her artwork.

After dropping out of architecture school and selling her wardrobe to sustain herself, CJ Hendry drew a realistic future for herself unlike other proverbial starving artists. What started as incredible hyper realistic drawings being posted on Instagram soon turned into collaborating with Christian Dior and Kanye West. Her creative process begins with photographing a desired object from various angles and then manipulating the lighting until she is satisfied. From then, a rough sketch begins and the tunnel vision sets in, usually taking up to 15 hours in one day until the drawing and the photograph are practically identical. Her exhibitions push the envelope of conventionality that intend to shock and delight including a wig barber disguised as a chocolatier shoppe - mirroring her artwork that has us begging the question “what is real and what is hyper reality?”
