The Time When The Concrete Jungle Went Full Bloom - A Lewis Miller Design

It was only a few years ago when New York City went into a vegetative state of mind. No, we’re not talking about quarantining in 2020 - go back a bit further and you might recall a time when commuters and tourists were greeted with unexpected and overflowing bouquets on street corner trash cans - the flash of florals, a temporary artistic installation made the grit of the city a bit more magical, even if it was just for a NY minute, thanks to artist (and florist), Lewis Miller.

The Guerilla Floral temporary installations captured the people of New York so off guard - and in the best way. And that’s really, REALLY difficult to accomplish. The flash of flowers brought spontaneity and pause to pedestrians, as passerbyers whip out their phones to capture the installation's fleeting essence of perfect imperfections and then, a moment later it’s gone - back to trash cans overflowing with actual trash instead of over pouring with lilies. Subway staircases that once were littered with actual litter were suddenly transformed to a rose petal red carpet - and then back again to the dismal underground. Like all artists do, perhaps Lewis' intention was to bring a message to light - do not forget to stop and smell the flowers.
